The EU Council Library has compiled a reading list which contains reading suggestions on a broad spectrum of topics and issues, such as agriculture, biodiversity, circular economy, and foreign affairs. The book edited by Serena Giusti and Irina Mirkina “The EU in a Trans-European Space. External Relations across Europe, Asia and the Middle-East” has been included in the European Council’s suggested reading list.

In their volume published by Palgrave, Serena Giusti, a researcher of International Relations at the Sant’Anna School Dirpolis Institute (Law, Politics and Development) and Irina Mirkina, a researcher of the Department of Economics at Lund University – Sweden, highlight political, social, and economic interactions in highly interconnected areas, stretching from Europe to Eastern Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, and East Asia, labelled as Trans-Europe.

The book focuses on the EU’s Global Strategy and the interests of leading actors in Trans-Europe. Dealing with cross-border issues, such as economic dynamics, energy sector and migration flows in the Trans-European space conceived in the form of a mental framework rather than a geographical entity, editors analyzed the role of stakeholders and states in molding present-day regional affairs and attitudes. This 11-chapters volume attempts to clarify the conceptual differences of inter-, trans-, cross- and multidisciplinary interactions in regional power and affairs. A multidisciplinary investigative approach within the past and present balance-of-power struggles is used to examine the potential outcomes of the current issues facing Europe as a global power.

Palgrave (a world-class publisher of books and journals) quantify the impact of publications and provides citation information. The “The EU in a Trans-European Space. External Relations across Europe, Asia and the Middle-East” ebook format published in 2019 was the preferred format for 25% of downloads.
